Bad, but not too bad, and reading good movies.

Ok, scale day. I didn't exercise as much as I should have. (Planning is everything. I decide, oh, I will exercise when I get home. It was DARK when I got home. I am not going to trip over things, or get eaten by a cougar, and usually, I just made dinner, ate, and went to bed.) But, I figured it would be a lot worse than it is...

Gained .2 pounds.

Not happy about it, but it's not the end of the world. Just a little more on MY end, is all. Pbbt.

So, have you watched any good (or not) movies of late? I haven't, but I just read a book, that a movie was based on. I really enjoy reading the book before I see the movie, as it gives me a deeper background of the characters. It can also confuse things. For example, when the Harry Potter films have diverged from the books, trying to explain the difference to Husband and Mom, who kind of enjoy the movies, but haven't read the books, was interesting.

So, who is Winky, and why are you upset that she isn't in the movie?

I also notice, quite often, I like the books better than the movie. I guess the "movie in my head" tends to be more vibrant and 'filled out'. I mean, there's a budget involved with the movie, the only limit in a book is my imagination! And since I read sci-fi a lot, this is even more pronounced.

I had heard both good and bad about the movie "The Postman" with Kevin Costner, but haven't yet seen it. I decided to get the book, and read it. It was pretty good, and I will probably go get the movie eventually. (It was sure panned by the critics...) I also noticed on YouTube that Tom Petty played a minor part in the movie. The funny thing, what they showed... Wasn't in the book. Odd.

The movie "Twilight" is another one. I am mildly interested in reading the book, and I want to see the movie, because I have been several places where it was filmed. It isn't the top of my to do list, but I will probably give it time. One of these days, anyway.

And it's not limited to theater movies. I love the Cadfael series, then found out it was on OPB. I must say, they did try to make it as much like the books as possible.

There have been exceptions to this, however. I liked the "Murder, She Wrote" series on television, but I have read several of the books... More accurately, I have tried to read the books. Haven't found one that I can get interested in.

And I adore Perry Mason. But I have watched the shows so much, the books seem sort of... a waste of effort. I know the man wrote LOTS of books, I should see how many were NOT made into television shows, maybe that would let me read them without the "yeah, I know, X did it with the poker because he wanted his Mom's property..."

Maybe it's just that I like to read... Mom tells me the story that I kept talking about all my friends when I was small. She thought I was talking about my stuffed animals. Delving a bit further, she found out I was referring to my books.

So. Read any good movies lately?

*Sigh* I rarely have time for the books. I have what I call "army" books. With the military there's a lot of hurry up and wait. So I carry a book along to pass the time. But it can often take months to read a book!

I guess there is something to be said for being home a lot, I get to read pretty much whenever I want. But at least you have something to DO when you hurry up and wait. Mine is knitting, which scares the crap out of people waiting at the DMV... Especially when they think I have accomplished some big part of a sweater, while sitting and waiting!

Yes, I want to catch up on everyone's blogs, and I saw that you'd seen a movie or two. I love movies, too, but don't get out to see them as often as I'd like. I will have to start going again, if I can go to matinees, if I went in the evening, my snoring would probably get me thrown out, as well as defeating the purpose of SEEING a movie.
