Well, I can finally say...

We are official!  We are stuck here! {wide grin}

This is to say, we have received our refund for the overpayment of our LAST MORTGAGE PAYMENT!  We own our place!  I knew we were getting close when Husband was starting to look at boat ads again, but hadn't checked the balance of late.  So, we are officially at our home, that is OUR home.  I am pleased!

We had been using sections of the place as a guide to how much we owned.  Well, the back pasture is paid for... The wooded area is paid for...  Etc...  And it was getting down to the front side pasture, and chicken house.  Well, the chicken's house is ours, now, too.

The irony of this, we lived in a trailer for a few years, to save for a down payment, we kept our sights on a reasonable (to us) payment and size of property, and we made sure to try and have a cushion, so if, Heaven Forfend, one or the other of us were incapacitated, we'd have something to fall back on to make payments until such time as we could get work again.  And I believe we blew through about 3 or 4 lenders, because they went out of business!  It was interesting, we'd be paying Company A, then we'd get a notification, Company B is taking over, and Bugle Boy is your new account manager, (sorry, I had to do that...), then we just had all the updated nonsense and address straightened out to send to the new company, and I'll be darned if THAT company wasn't sold to Company C!  I am not sure, I think that was all, but still.

We were more stable than the companies we were paying the funds to.  Sheesh.

Bringing the news home to me, I say.

We were kind of confused, we received a bit of mail from our county, for the mortgage, and when we opened it up, it was a certification of our mortgage being paid off... From Maricopa County, Arizona.  We live in OREGON, folks.  We didn't have a clue about what this was, in fact, were a bit suspicious.  Was this some sort of phishing or some such?  We finally called the county clerk.  Turns out, Company C had the escrow thing in Arizona, so that's where the 'finish work' was at.  Just had to be approved by our county (and was, we had the little sticker with the "yes, you are legal owners" stuff on it), so, we now are just happy as clams.  If a clam gets excited about owning its own home, anyway.

Clams can be a bit closed mouth about those things, you know.

Good for you guys. We're doing a rent-to-own sort of thing. We should own our place a about 5 years. Clams do, by the way, own their own homes. Good for them, too.

That most definitely works! Owning is good with what we are doing, trying to farm and home business, it just makes one less "bill" to deal with... And yes, they would own their own homes, they just don't mussel in on the conversation much about it! HA!

Thank you! It will happen, it just takes time. We happen to be 'boring' (other families words), and put more up front to pay it off, rather than vacations, and 'fluff' stuff. Even then, it takes a while. But, you'll get there!

It wasn't easy! It took us a while, and we splured on virtually nothing, (not a recommendation for most, but we don't seem to have a big problem with it...), and Husband is a... very money oriented person. He doesn't like bills. So there was high motivation on both our parts.

His on getting the bill paid, mine on not going nuts while he was concerned about getting the bill paid... ;)
