Sunday Supplement, late edition.

Today was my class reunion.  Didn't go.  (Didn't care, either.)  I did, however, take a tour of my old high school.  I was surprised at some of the changes, and disappointed, in a few.  (The school had an award winning shop area when I went there, it's now rather like a hobby shop, and NO AUTO SHOP.  None.  This is really disappointing to someone who went there and really got a lot out of the "non-book" oriented classes.  And this area is still rather blue collar, so it means that kids will have to look elsewhere for Shop 101.  Too bad, I think.)  But they do have some interesting additions, real buildings now, instead of modulars, and two gyms.  So, things come, things go.

On a completely unrelated note, when I was at the National Night Out, one of the firemen gave me a hat for my god daughter, (no clue if she actually will want it, but if she doesn't, I know a little boy that would like it, too), but I had to model it on Buc...

Heaven help you if you saw THIS mug through the smoke!

Happy Sunday!

So many of the schools have dropped the real "hands on" classes. The cars now days are too technical and even the dealership can mess them up.

I don't believe I would even know my school anymore - for all I know it has been torn down, it was old when I went there 50 years ago.

Cute fireman's hat!

No shop class? What is the world coming to? Where will we train the next generation of mechanics and carpenters and such very necessary people?

Love the model, and the hat.

Buc's a bit scary! But I like the addition of the fireman's hat because he kinda reminds me of a really scary Smokie the Bear.

Our reunion scheduled a tour of the HS which I skipped since it has been completely remodeled since I graduated way back when.

Oh, I don't know.. Buc might help evacuate a burning building faster than the conventional fire alarm. ;)

I like him! Wonderful model!

Oh my gosh! That thing's scary even in a picture.

I live in the town I grew up in, and every once in a while I go to my old high school for a play or musical. It hasn't changed all that much. Especially the smell. I always feel like I'm back in school, the minute I take a deep breath.

It's a shame when they get rid of the practical classes due to lack of funds. Bad enough when they skip music and sports....

To some extent I agree with you, but the auto shop was also (when I went there), part of Driver's Ed, and had ALL student do stuff like change tires, and put on tire chains. That's part of the reason I am saddened it's gone.

But yes, when the car can do more things that all the appliances in my house, you know there's some sort of major leauge crapola under the hood...

Well, we supposedly send them to the local community college. However, some drop out before then, so I am wondering what the point is...

And yes, he is unique, huh.

Scary Smokey the... Cat? :)

Well, that would be a culture shock, yes... But I guess that's sort of why I wanted to go, I knew there were some major changes, and was curious about them.

LOL! I think I completely agree with you! And yes, I am just crazy enough to think that this is a fun model.

Eh, I cracked up the first time I saw it, so I guess to each their own.

Some of the school is still familiar, (and still smells the same, floor wax and books), but some, wooow...

I heartily agree. I was upset, especially, since our school had won national awards for the various "blue collar" classes we had. We now don't have much in the way of classes...
