LIGHTNING!!!!!

Photo by Its a country thang

Well, did my thing, and was driving home yesterday.  It was wonderful, the sun was out, I even had the window down on the truck, so I could get some fresh air.

Plip.  A drop on the window.  Plip. Plipyplip. Plip.

Dang it... Ok, roll up the window, as it's turning to rain again.  Soon, it became rather heavy rain.  Hmmph. So, I kept going.  Soon, it was crunchy rain, then turned to hail.

Well, crap.

That makes it sort of hard to see, so I slowed down a lot.  I felt great sympathy for the poor guy going the other way on his motorcycle, I am sure it was not a whole lot of fun to have what amounts to ice gravel in the face...

So, finally, heading down the hill for home.  And I was listening to AM radio.  When I hear "crunch".  This is the sound of lighting near the area.

Oh, joy.  No biggie, I am almost home...  'crunch' yada yada "crUNCH" yada

FLASH BLAMMM!!!

The lighting hit in the field right across from the house, and right next to my truck!  It sounded like a gunshot...  It terrified the cattle, and one young calf ran headlong, and tried to jump over the fence.  I started a 'ditch dive' to avoid a head on with the calf, but he didn't make it over the fence, sort of half bounced off, and turned to run along the fence.

I floored it, threw gravel all the way up the drive, and ran into the house.  Husband was holding the door open so I could run in.  We decided the groceries could just wait...

I was shaking for a little bit over that one, let me tell you!  On the bright side, I don't think anyone was hurt, cow or me, and Mom and Dad got to have their first weather spotter call!

Oh, and Happy Friday the 13th!

Sounds like a terrifying experience; for you and the calf!
I'm glad you are all OK

Hail often heralds the arrival of a tornado. I'm glad nothing that eventful happened to you.

You describe the hail storm so well I could almost smell the fresh charged air. Blog on!

I don't like driving in the rain, myself. Storms... I avoid them like the plague. My husband has been caught in a couple downpours, so now he has me check the radar before he takes his bike for a ride.

Friday the 13th... I have never had anything bad happen on the 13th that I know of.

Glad you are safe! You will spend the rest of your life, i'm sure, wondering why tornado chasers are so insane that way.

Happy 13th!

I think it was... Thanks!

We don't get tornadoes here often, thankfully. Just earthquakes and volcanoes... And winter storms... Uh, never mind...

Thank you!

If I never drove in the rain, I wouldn't go anywhere much. :)
However checking before a bike ride is an EXCELLENT idea... And Friday the 13th usually is a good day for me. Don't know why, just is.

I thought that even before the zapitation. But then I am not real adventurous in that way...

I am reading this right after we finished a thunder storm here. A window shaking, rain pounding, thought the lights were going to go out storm.

Swinging through from the A to Z page. Good luck on the rest of the challenge!
