N. New Trees.

I guess this could also be Nearly forgot, as I didn't get this up this morning...

Anyway, I had sent off for some trees from the Arbor Day Society, and just got the chance to plant them yesterday.  I was afraid that if I had planted them earlier, it would have frozen the poor things.  Well, they are still pretty spindly, but they seem to have put out a few little tender branches and leaves, so I will hope for the best. (I have bought these things about twice now, the first were destroyed when my chickens got out, the second batch were mowed.  This batch has been put in pots, the chickens have wing feathers clipped, and I have bright orange flags to let a certain member of the family (cough,HUSBAND,cough) where I planted them...

The one in the large pot is the sole survivor of the last two batches.  I am hoping it might encourage the others a little... Heh.

Oh, and Mom?  Yes, I did forget to put Milton up for yesterday's "M", so for all my blogger friends, here is Milton, the cookie jar in my kitchen. (The photo yesterday is for storage, that I put in my pantry.)

Oooh, Milton is so sweet! I so regret not planting any trees for shade when we moved into our house 11 years ago. I just remember thinking it would take way too long for them to grow.

Chinese saying (I think...), The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best is now... ;)

Milton doesn't look like he'd be too willing to give up his cookies.

He gets noisy now and again, but otherwise, he's actually quite generous!

I love the saying about planting trees.... how true!
I've always thought about buying seedlings from the forest service... but have never gotten around to it. They always seem so small - but how exciting when you do see then grow.
Milton is darling.

Good luck with this batch of trees.
I hope that the big ones looks after and encourages the others to grow!
