Pi**ed as Hell!!! Well... Not as much...

I wrote this blog about 2 days ago, and was upset.  Well... I am not as upset.  I still hope the buttheads that stole the guitars get punished...

Check below the guitar photos for the good news...

(This has put me in a rather foul mood, so this is a bit more PG-13, or so, rant than usual.)

As most of you know, I am a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fan.  The group is going on tour, I believe, next week, or so.  Well, some scum-sucking asshat has stolen guitars from them.  While this is not a tour ender, it just infuriates me that people do that.

One of the guys at the Sheriff's Office said while Toby Keith was here on tour a while ago, someone stole HIS guitar. Portable item?  The idea that it can be sold quickly?  Mentally deficient fan???

And... they stole from ALL the guitar players in the group!  Guess it's a good thing that pianos and drums aren't as portable, or the would probably have snitched that, too!  Brain dead idiots.

Now, I realize that Tom and Co. have money, and can probably come up with new guitars... (In fact, I believe that Tom Petty has something like 150+ guitars in his collection alone.)  That is so NOT the point!

I have lots of knitting needles, but I have some that I adore, use most of the time, and they have a certain "feel" to them, and I would be ready to tear someone the proverbial new one if they went missing by theft.  And something tells me these guitars are worth a bit more than some steel double pointed Susan Bates...

I don't know why thievery makes me so furious, but I guess I look at it that someone works, obtains something, and that generally means it is important to them.  So when it's stolen, you are taking a chunk of what's important to that person...

The group has made it clear that there would be $7500 to the person that returns them, no questions asked.  However, from what I have been reading, if the fans find out who it is, they might have much less time as a healthy human being... With certain parts of the anatomy being removed, in the most painful manner that can be thought of.  Let's just say, I think that Petty fans sound rather blood-thirsty at the moment.

So, just for the info thereof, this is the list of stolen stuff:

Tom's Rickenbacker 360/12 - 1967 Blonde (serial # GH 3747)
Tom's Gibson SG TV Junior - 1965 (serial # 318533)

Scott's Epiphone Sheridan - 1967 (serial # to be updated ASAP)

Mike's Dusenberg Mike Campbell Model (serial # to be updated ASAP)

Ron's Fender Broadcaster – (serial # to be updated ASAP)
(The photo is of Mike's Broadcaster, but Ron's was stolen.)

News report about the guitar's return...

And the pathetic jackass is...

The guitars have been found! "I am extremely grateful to the Culver City Police Department for a job well done and touched by the outpouring of good wishes and concern from our fans and friends." - Tom Petty

  1. Glad this story has a happy ending. I just don't get people at times, well a lot of times... I guess that's why I stick to the other kind of jackasses....they are so much nicer.

  2. Nothing makes me angrier.... well, maybe stealing a bicycle from a handicapped, disadvantaged kid who received it as a gift. But, taking stuff from anybody just rubs me the wrong way. You are also right, I'm sure, that each guitar has its own feel, like your knitting needles. Glad they are back!

  3. I haven't really looked at electrical guitars up close but they are wonderful objects to look at, in addition to hearing them. Glad for the happy ending.

  4. Portable, and there are always people willing to buy, even if they know it's stolen. Actually, some would brag "I now own so-and-so's guitar" to equally morally challenged friends. No, i don't get those people either.

Glad they got the gear back, though; Sweetie is a gear head, and knows that your special axe is very important.
