The Case of the Man in the Sheet.

I haven't read Sherlock Holmes in quite a while... High school or college, I believe.  I enjoyed reading them.  I suppose it was a 'been there, done that' thing.  I don't re-read a lot of books.

But I'd been hearing about this Masterpiece Theater version of Sherlock.  It sounded interesting.  I decided to take a peek...

(I started with season 2.  No, I didn't realize it was season 2.  I now have season 1 on hold at the library.  Which is saying something, as I don't like using the hold system at my library.  If it isn't there, I usually just wait.  I am still waiting for The Hunger Games, if that gives you any idea...)

I was reading about it, and realized it was a MODERN take on Sherlock.  I don't know why, but I don't like... Hmm.

Well, for example, Shakespeare.  Modern clothes, modern housing, etc, and then I hear Thee's, Thou's, and all the Elizabethan speech, it just grates on me.

(The lady doth protest too much?  Mayhap... Meh.)

So, I was hoping it wouldn't be all Victorian speech, with cell phones.  Cell phones, yes, Victorian, no.  Well, except perhaps for "A Scandal in Belgravia"...  Wait.  That wasn't Victorian, it was Victoria's Secret!  (Sorry, had to do it...) Seriously, I was highly impressed.  I thought the stories were updated well, the actors were excellent (um, and Benedict Cumberbatch is cute), and it made me want to read the originals again.

Today it's raining like crazy.  There is not much I need to do, except maybe a bit of laundry, and make dinner eventually.  I am going to read "The Adventure of a Scandal in Bohemia".

Re-reading is nice, every once in a while... In this case, it's like being re-introduced to an old friend you'd not seen in a while, when you met up with one of their children.

So, I recommend a viewing of Sherlock BBC's "A Scandal in Belgravia" , a nice cup of tea, and a rainy day to enjoy them in.

(And the book, too, so you have the rest of the stories when the movies are over...)

I've seen both series and yes, you are right, such a good modern take on the stories. A little 'out there' perhaps at times but if you've read the stories before I think the scripts make more sense.

I seldom re-read a book or re-watch a movie. (Note seldom)I believe I will re-read the Hunger Games books and maybe Katerine the Great and The Egg and I. Movies - I like the old classics. Think I have seen Harvey a dozen times. Actually watched Avatar twice.

Not much of a Holmes fan myself, I loved Mike Hammer...

Read Sherlock through high school and college, then again to the kids when they were younger. It would be interesting to see a modern take on it.

As for wait times at libraries, if it's popular, ask how many people are on the list ahead of you. Often, it would be faster to save up and buy the book!

Ya wanna talk Sherlock? "Fine. We'll start with the riding crop."

(The first season definitely had some quotable moments.)

I love the Sherlock series as well - and I know what you mean about Shakespeare. Some of it is too much for me too, but I blame the bloody actors of the RSC for that.

We won't get much rain around here for a while, but I know I will enjoy Sherlock Holmes. Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't know this was on.

I would definitely agree with the reading of the book(s) first, no matter what the venue...

I re-watch movies a lot more than I re-read books, but then there is somewhat less investment in time in that, too... I like The Egg and I as well! Harvey is a great one, too. You know, I don't think that I've read Mike Hammer. Hmm, have to look for that one. I am eclectic. Or nuts. Or both.

If you get the chance, try the link, you should be able to get the 3 of the series that way... Our library has a wait list of dozens, so I don't even bother when there is a new book, I am USUALLY not in a big hurry.

Yes, but I still liked "What is this, a death frisbee?"

Or, of course, "I am SHER-LOCKED"

Yep, quotes can be fun...

Doesn't hurt that they picked a cute guy... ;)

SOME of them, yes. But even at Ashland, where we have a Shakespearean theater, they have modern 'stuff' with Olde English, and it just does NOT work for me. Again, Meh.

Enjoy! And you know it works for a hot day, a windy day, or (insert thing you don't want to deal with) day... Heh.

Welcome back, my friend!

And yes, I must say, it's nice to have a story that I don't feel I need to call a "guilty" pleasure!

i thought this sounded like an interesting series too, but they had to go and put it on sundays, which seems to be our main night of viewing. ugh. we are just now on season one of breaking bad, so we might get around to sherlock in say, 2017. ;o)

But, bon bon, if you can follow the link, and have fast enough internet, you should be able to watch Sherlock whenever you want. (Love being able to do this now!)
