Tree candles? Tree fingers?

I see spring has finally decided to stay around for a few...

I went out and looked at our Ponderosa Pine, and they are putting on little... things.  I have heard them called fingers, candles, pods, lots of names.  It's basically the pollen part of the tree.  I think.  The red things are, at any rate.  The yellow colored spike is new "leaves".  For whatever reason, I think of Hula Dancers.

I was taking some pictures of the new growth, when this little gent happened by.  I was surprised, the dragonfly stayed still long enough to take a photo of.  (It's kind of hard to see him, he's on the smaller spike in front.  You can enlarge the photo by clicking on it, as I remember.)

So, I think, maybe, possibly, by some outrageous bit of hope, we might have springy-summery weather happening!   (Except that my poor Husband has rat eyes right now, and I sound like a coffee peculator, but we still like the weather, if not the pollen...)

By golly they do look like hula dancers. Great pictures.

Yup - that looks like spring for sure! Our trees are starting to do things, too. Hooray!
Too bad that pollen is part of spring!

great photos...I feel your pain. Rode my bike around the Sac River yesterday and the pollen here looks like cotton. Thanks to the wind that kicked up that crap, I am itching from head to toe.

We are on A/C again, so spring has sprung! Hope the allergies subside soon.

I have never seen a dragonfly that color. Those pines are very cool!
