"Roadies", the Golden Girls, and being catty.

I have tried to get the Rhode Island Reds to set.  It's just NOT happening.  Oh, they do 'sit'.  Just for a day, perhaps, just to be malicious, a week, but to bring egg to chick, nope.

So, I decided to get some more chickens to "help".  This has created some amusement, some shock and awe, amazement, and general notice by the neighbors...

A look of confusion.
What in the world ARE those big yellow things?

Even the rooster isn't exactly sure of what to do...

Introducing, my 5 new Golden Girls.
(Buff Orpintons.) Husband has taken to calling
these "Golden Girls", and the others "The Roadies".
I feel like I should be a television producer...

They are the epitome of "Mellow Yellow",
laid back, and hopefully we will see chicks somewhat soon...

And this is what happens when Buzz is on the post
realizing I am close...

This is the look of annoyance
when she can't get on my shoulder.

Can she jump?
Not when I scoot back a few feet...

Disappointed Buzz is disappointed.
(So I came back and scratched her chin.
Whereupon Husband let Rudee out, and I
had a green eyes competition for my affection.)

Those are some lovely ladies there!

We call our buffs "the golden girls" as well! My buffs are fantastic sitters and mothers. My maran is also a great sitter, but a horrible horrible mom. She'd misplace her babies regularly. Congrats on the new additions!

Those chickens are really pretty, but I don't think I'd want that rooster waking me every morning.

I thought I had some nice looking ones, too... :)

Our "Roadies" seem to be okay IF they become moms, but it takes an act of God, Congress, and possibly two or more Notary Publics to get them to set! SHEESH!

While he's not a quiet thing, we have the hen house far enough from our bedroom that you really have to be listening to hear him, it's quieter than the hum of the forced air, so we don't have a bio-alarm clock...

Buff Orpintons! From what i understand, they haven't any pin feathers (i read that somewhere). They are lovely, and i hope they teach the Reds some motherly instincts.

Good luck on the new biddies!
And, YAY for kitty pictures! :)

I don't know about the pin feathers, but they look like they are wearing skirts, the feathers underneath are so prominent. I am not sure they will do much teaching, the two groups will just probably ignore each other... Meh...

Thank you, and Buzz says purr!

I love the kitty pics too. Buzz is a good looking puss!

Orpingtons are my favourite chicken breed, they are such big friendly girls and make good mothers. (Usually!) Black Orpingtons are more common than buff here in NZ, but both are popular.

Purrrr... I have seen Black ones, as well, but Buff seems more popular here. Go Figure. If they are good Moms, I don't really care if they are PURPLE! Heh...

Haaaaaaaaaaa, that looks like one determined pussy - those pics say it all! My old girl refuses to grace our downstairs ever since we brought "the monster" home (our clueless, now 9yr old, Golden Retriever who has never shot so much as a cross look her way). She stalks the garden by day, and our bedroom by night, queen of all she surveys!

I adore those new hens, who knew chickens could turn out so glamorous? Sounds like you have your hands happily full - good luck with the egg quest.

Yes, she wants to be up on things. Posts, trees... Shoulders... Ah, and one of the reasons is, as a matter of a fact, our dog. He wouldn't do anything to her, but he loves to 'sniff', and she does NOT want to accommodate him. Fingers crossed on the eggs...
