Chicks! Itty Bitty Chicky Committe!

Well, I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have chicks this year, the hens managed to ruin TWO clutches.  But, wonder of wonders, Mama Bird got broody, and now, at least part of the result (she still has some eggs unhatched).

Mama Bird is a good Mama- to the point that Husband and I wear heavy gloves to handle her... Which should be interesting, since we are going to move her and family tonight.  It will be a secured area so that they can eat and grow in peace.  (I hope.)

I just love the one peeking out!  There is one that has "racing stripes", three little stripes down the back, the others are blonde or orange.  We shall see if Mon Ami is a Daddy!  Several Moms, two Dads, so we have a village.  With 14 eggs, a fairly large village, if they all hatch.

6 so far...

(Ok, I just HAD to add this... The Great Escape! This is just funny to me, around here, we'd just get the darn happy couple penned up quickly.  I keep wondering if some yuppie type went out in the yard and stepped in some solid fuel exhaust....)

Chicks are so darn cute. If only they didn't grow up to become chickens.

Hooray for your Mama! Isn't it amazing the trouble our critters can get into. They want to escape, or so they think. Then when they do, they have no clue what to do next!

I think baby chicks are the cutest things on the planet. I can appreciate that mama wants to protect her babies. The pictures are so adorable.
