Train Wreck! And setting, finally!!

The chicks have grown, so I have one rooster, Chattanooga, and three hens, Burlington, Northern, and Santa Fe.

Northern, and Santa Fe are docile, (well, okay, Santa Fe jumps up and tries to get the food bowl out of my hand, but I think she just wants to sit and eat, as she jumps on the barrel as well), but Burlington...

Hmph.  Obnoxious little girl.  She runs out and slips out of the chicken yard, she runs out in the evening when we try to close the 'house for the night, she is just a pain in the patooki.

(A runaway train?  Ahem.)

The other night, I'd just gone out to close the 'house, when Burlington roared out, and if a chicken could give me a raspberry, she would have.  But!  I knew how to fix her little copper-colored wagon!

I put just a tiny bit of feed, riiiight by my foot.  She is maybe the worst glutton of the bunch.  She ran, wings flapping, to gobble down the dropped feed.

That's when I grabbed her.  She threw a wall-eyed fit, screaming like I was plucking her bald.  I opened the door, and Chattanooga, who is well into a bit of mischief too, decided HE wanted to play.  So I dropped Burlington, very unceremoniously onto him.

Fluff!

The both started squawking at each other, and righting themselves, and by that time, I had the door closed and locked for the evening.

Softest train wreck I ever witnessed...

Oh, Mama bird finally decided to set.  This is Mama bird that raised the Train Gang, so I think she should do okay.  She finally got off the nest for a minute to eat.  I was able to count the eggs, lucky 13 this time.  I don't expect all of them to hatch, but there is enough, that I hope there will be a few, and I really hope Mon Ami is a Daddy...

We have blondes, red heads, and I am looking forward to seeing what a black and white mix with that comes up with...

So many bloggers are writing about their hatching chicks. Am I the only one not sitting on eggs? Ha!

Fingers crossed, but if all of them hatch, I have got to come up with a LOT of names! :)
