D is for...

Denim.

Jeans are Husband and my wearables of choice.  In fact, when we were on our honeymoon, we were turned away from a restaurant because the only 'slacks' Husband had were corduroy.  (Figured that if they were that picky, we could eat elsewhere... Hmph!) I don't know why I like jeans, I have other styles of pants, but jeans are just... "Do all" for me, they can be somewhat dressy, depending what I wear them with, I can go out and take care of animals without (much) fear of damaging them, they last, and well, let's face it, they can go with nearly anything.

And when they do finally wear out?  Well, I have a pile of them.  Originally, they were for a gal to make jean quilts out of.  She moved, and so I have a large pile of them.  I've been saving them for several years, and so I have a collection of colors from black and blue to near white (Husband's fade a lot, for some reason), and I needed to do something with them.

I found a pattern for a bag made from jeans, which I want to try.  I also want to see if I can try making a vest from scraps...
Nancy's Notions

I was in a car accident sometime back.  I was badly hurt, and remember the EMT telling me that fact.  I was not too upset by this (I assume that they had given me something), but then he said he was going to have to cut my jean jacket up to check my arms.  That was when I had a problem!

I was NOT going to have my jacket ruined!

Um.

Did you know that EMT's can move much faster than people who are injured and doped up can? I did lose the jacket, but sometime later, in the hospital, one of the nurses handed me a small bag.  I looked at it again, and realized it was a pocket from my jacket (the pockets buttoned) the EMT had cut out to put my rings and eyeglasses in.

Why that pleased me, I will never figure out, but to this day, I figure, at least the jacket was able to still serve to the good, even after being cut up!

But, let's just say, I would prefer the cutting up of jeans be of my choosing this go 'round, yes???

I think that is so cool that the EMT actually took the time to use your pocket! Usually they stick it all in a plastic baggie. I think he realized you really wanted to save that jacket and was thinking that at least he could give you a piece of it back... Did you keep it? Hope so! And, I'm glad you're okay... I like jeans also, but only wear "real" clothes when I have to leave the house or have company over. Since I work at home, I mostly dress for the most amount of comfort, like PJs! Nice post! Yes! It's bad enough to be in an accident, them ruining favorite clothes is insult to injury, even if medically necessary.

Funny that you were turned away for wearing corduroy, which translates as "royal cloth," and was once worn only by kings.

Denim is the best - such versatility - such "go to" wear - it works so hard and for so little. There is nothing quite like slipping into jeans perfectly broken in, worn at just the right places, and everything just is right with the world.

Sorry to hear about the accident (new to your space) - but maybe, it was the thoughtfulness of saving something so important to you - even in what was presumably a "drugged state" in order help you, that moved the EMT to act with such thoughtfulness.

I think I do have it somewhere, but that was a (ahem) few years, and a few moves ago, so finding could be... a challenge. Funny, I find jeans to be the "comfy" clothes. Plus, I have neighbors that show at random times, so my doofy nightie might not be the best thing for day wear...

Yeah, but at least I can still wear jeans!

I suppose it was because they wanted Jacket and Tie, and I suppose that his corduroy was too "jean" like. I would make some comment about Husband's kingly aspect, but I won't... :)

It goes with nearly everything, I suppose that's why I like it so well. The EMT was a friend of mine from High School, the ER nurse was a friend of mine from college, so I had a couple folks looking out for me. So, yes, I suppose that could be part of the reason...

Like you, my husband and I live in our jeans. They start off as smarter ones, then gradually get worn and become casual and finally are only good for dog walking and messy work. I definitely get my money's worth out of them.

I love seeing the things people make out of denim. The most I've ever done is cut the legs off a pair of jeans to make hammocks for my pet rats!

I don't blame you for being upset about losing your jacket, that was sweet of the EMT to save your pocket. :-)

Jeans are my favorite wear too. With the right accessories and top you can look really classy. But at the same time jeans are great when working outdoors. So it is kind of a mutlipurpose wear - can it be better?!

My Mom used to collect denim patches in the hopes of making a quilt, but never got around to it. My mother-in-law, however, made me a bag sort of like the ones you posted out of a denim skirt!
