K is for...

Knitting.

Actually, for me, it should be, "KNITTING!"  Two sticks and a string.  The amazing loops and knots that make a pattern...

I am rarely without a something.  I normally knit socks.  I am, right now, knitting squares to make a 100 square afghan.  I have knit hats.  Scarves. A shawl or two. Baby blankets. LOTS of baby blankets...  A dust mitt.  A Queen Elizabeth doll. A knitting cat.

I have found that knitting is calming for me.  I knit, I can concentrate.  When I was in school, and before I learned to knit, I doodled constantly.  I think this is probably the same idea, but it's nice to have something I can use when I am finished, where the doodle, most of the time, was just doodling... I did give a few of my pictures out, but rarely.  On the other hand, people really seem to want my knitting.

And I am glad, in this recitation of blessings, the blessing that can keep me from fidgeting and being grumpy, can give others a blessing, too!

(And I am up to square 43 on my afghan, if anyone is interested...)

Wow! While i have knitted and crocheted, and done cross stitch, i'm not that good at any and haven't done them in a long time.

One old country pastor i knew said he loved to see a woman sitting with knitting in her hands while he preached. He knew that while her fingers were busy with that, her entire concentration was on him and what he was saying, and that she was getting more out of the sermon than her husband, who simply sat and listened.

I like knitting, but don't anymore because the yarn, for some reason, bothers my skin. I don't understand how that happened. Not that I was a spectacular knitter. I'm a knit and purl woman.

How fortunate you are to have found something that calms you and that you enjoy.

This brought back memories of learning to knit in primary school. We all knitted a dishcloth out of some grey, dishclothy wool! Apart from a few dropped stitches, mine was OK. I used to like knitting but I haven't done any for a long time. Your post has inspired to hunt out my old knitting needles and give it another go!

Cat, this is Sharon from Write Away and mystery terms visiting you. What a lovely collection of blessings you have shared. But I finally had to comment at knitting. I'm not at all good or fast, but I love knitting and crocheting. Imagine my delight when I read about a study that found that repetitive needlework of that sort is more psychologically beneficial than meditation! Nice to find you through this challenge.

I share your love of knitting. I know what you mean about finding it calming and helping you to concentrate. I struggle to just sit and watch TV, I like to be doing something all the time and knitting works well for that because you get something pretty or functional at the end of it. :-)
