Shudder. I am going to do this, soon... Update.

I have decided to change the system thing on my computer.

I am going to Windows 10.  The little reminder thing has popped up several times, and after establishing it wasn't some sort of virus on my computer, but something from Uncle Billy, I think I'd better change it.

Mostly, I know it will go away eventually.  I also know, that if my parents get new computers, I will need to find out how the new system works, so I am not looking blankly at them when they ask about something.  (Dad's system is about a generation behind mine now, and I have to stop and think, ok, what did I do when that happened?)

I asked one of the IT guys if it was okay to do, and there was a grunted "yeah".  Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it sounded like it wouldn't cause me to kill off the computer, or send a rampant virus to everyone online.

So.  I will see if I can do this thing, and then maybe update this blog entry.  Then again, my computer might go up in flames, and I won't be able to do a darn thing...

Do I sound apprehensive?  I am.  I know that this is a change that has been there for a while, but having heard very little positive, I am not eager.

So.  We shall see what commences.  Wish me luck.

So.  I tried, and nothing has happened, as of yet.  I am now informed that my Kindle for my PC has expired, (why that has anything to do with downloading Windows 10, I am not sure), but I will download the 'upgraded' Kindle app, then try again.

I guess I will have more later.  Nothing's blown up, fallen apart, or stopped dead, so that's good, right?

The actual changing of it is really easy. A disc or download does it all for you. It is coping with the changes that is the hard part. It doesn't get any easier for me to cope with change, but change we must, perforce.

While you are embracing change, why not consider getting rid of your pointless 'approval' hurdle at the same time?

Good luck. Ours updated itself, when my back was turned, and i don't like it. Then again, i never like updates.

I have been teaching classes on Windows 10 for the last month and there are occasionally some minor "hiccups" with the actual updates, but the new Operating System is actually pretty user friendly. As with all things the real rub is having to relearn (AGAIN) something new. It takes time and energy.

Are you updating from Windows 7? You probably need no help what-so-ever because you are probably smarter than the average bear BUT..feel free to email me if you run into any snags. My students have had a couple of oddities and I might have already figured out the solution to your problem IF one would present itself. Although, many of the upgrades have gone seamlessly so you might, in fact, be one of those "easy peasy" ones.

The free upgrade goes away on July 29th so you have a bit of time.

Yes, let us know what happens - I am seriously considering giving up on windows, I don't think they will ever 'get' it right.

Yes, the coping is the problem, and I need to get a head start, as I do the teaching for the other members of my family, so...

Actually, there IS a point. I did remove the captcha info (I think), but I check the replies before they go on, because there were a lot of spam items that started coming in on my blog, I don't need my blog friends dealing with 'enlargement' pills, and random online stores that may or may not be virus laden... I am not online everyday, that's why it doesn't show up quickly.

Can't say I am wild about them either, but I guess I want to take the cliche'd bull by the horns, I suppose...

Works for me! I haven't been able to get it to load at this point, so I will be working on it today... Odd, it keeps harping, but didn't load when I said okay.

I suspect it's not a matter of getting it right, so much as adding new 'stuff'. I mean, a car is a car is a car to get you from point A to B, but a stripped down stick shift compact is going to be a different driver than a fully loaded auto with Bluetooth... :) (Says the gal who would be happier with the stick shift...)

Windows is the bane of many an existence. Not quite as evil as Batman's nemesis Bane—when Gotham City is in ashes, then you can have your update, etc. Then again...

I did have trouble on one of my computers getting it to load on a number of tries.... Then one day it worked fine.

Well, so far, at least, my computer isn't wearing a bite guard and threatening to kill me, either. Yet. :)
