Now quiet 10 thankfuls...

 1. We had been putting back for a while, and finally was able to get a new roof. The other had been a good roof, but was getting well past the point where it was going to STAY a good roof. Add to that a big branch had fallen through our garage roof, we needed to get things fixed. Twelve very active, strong, and focused men in the crew, and they had at it!

2. I am now even more thankful for our quiet house. The roofers were fast, and did a good job, but dang if it wasn't a continuous screech, bang, crash, thump noise fest! They weren't trying to be noisy, just the hazard of the job.

3. I stepped away from another project to stay home with Ding Kitty during the chaos. We had no idea how she'd react. They started, and we just told her she was a good kitty, Husband gave her some gooshy food, and we relaxed on the couch. She was a little fluffy tailed, at first, and wide eyed as there were folks walking by the windows, but she realized we were just doing as if nothing was wrong, and soon she settled down. She even tried to doze, but that wasn't as successful... See noise fest.

4. On the days they weren't here, I mulched my garden, because the rain was coming in. I did part on one day, with some help of Husband. The next day, he said I should use his wheelbarrow. This is a big thing, and I wasn't sure I could. But Husband mentioned my legs are stronger. So I tried, and did pretty much the rest of it the next day myself with his tank of a wheelbarrow. I earned it, but I was indeed able to do so! (And it went faster due to the amount I could move).

5. I ended up making cookies for the crew. Other than trying to hear myself think when doubling the recipe, it went well. And by the looks of the plate when it came back, they liked it much!

6. We missed having the deer, turkeys, and other animals around while the roofers were here, but they left, and about an hour or so later... The deer walked across the lawn to get apples from the tree.

7. Played with my food dryer, and made apple chips. I added a bit of cinnamon and sugar, it came out very well, I think, and so I am thankful I have a "recipe" for a gift to make a friend or two.

8. The chickens have a new roof, too! Husband noticed that one side was getting some damage, so he used some tin and screws he had left from another project, and made a tin roof. It looks very nice, and goes along with the rest of the roof fixing.

9. I am thankful that the job didn't take long, that Husband didn't have to do it, and that we were able to take care of it. I am also thankful we shouldn't have to do it again any time soon!!!!

10. I didn't get any writing taken care of, but I could crochet, a very repetitive project, and so that is getting nearer to finished. Thankful that I still have a bit of time before Christmas!

Have a not too noisy week, with many thankfuls! :)

Sorry about the technical difficulties... :(

We have had a few roofs replaced. The most recent found us in bed when the crew arrived, around 5 am, to put tarpaulins around the house. Their chatter outside our bedroom window woke us up. I do recall (shudder) as they stomped on the roof (shudder) wrestled with pulling off the existing shingles (shudder) tromped across the roof to drop them in a dumpster (shudder) and then dealt with the underlayment (stomp, stomp, stomp) and then nailed on the new shingles (shudder). I understand your appreciation of quiet!

I'm glad to hear from you, and thankful you got the roof and mulch and such done before the rains moved in. Give Ding a few scritches from me for being such a good kitty during all that.
