New year? Oh. Ok...

I was all set to have some neat little blurb about resolutions, new starts, etc. You know, a happy little blog.

Well...

Um.

It ain't.

I went to the sub to do my bit for the Sheriff's Office.  My Mom and Dad had an appointment, and I gave them a buzz to let them know I could leave a bit early.  I then found out my 96 year old Grandma had taken a rather bad fall during the night, and was in the hospital.

Oh, s***...

I left, and went to see how she was doing.  She was heavily medicated, which meant she was having an even harder time hearing and understanding me. (she will not use a hearing aide, and I speak a pitch higher than her hearing can do well with.  Makes for... unique conversations at the best of times.)  She had a knot on her head the size of a golf ball, and has a hairline fracture of her pelvis. Lots of color, bumps and bruises, that I am sure will only get MORE colorful, with time.

All things being equal, it isn't great.  But it could have been worse.  The place she lives at did check on her, and were Johnny-On-The-Spot to get her to the hospital, but she will still have some problems.  I just saw her on Christmas Day, and was thinking she was looking much healthier and more chipper than she had been in a while.

Last night had some neighbors that decided midnight just wasn't enough for booms and gunfire.  We had, from 10 pm on, 15 to 20 minute blasts, that seemed to shake the house, and rattled Rudee.  Had to go out at least three times to calm the poor dog. I really don't know if he was scared, or if the sound was hurting his ears.  They finally ran out of ammo about 1 am.  (I think someone got M-80's again this year, those things are ridiculously loud...)

So, 2014 came in... And I certainly hope that this is not a harbinger of the rest of the year!

I will try and get another blog of less depressing stature up soon, but right now, I need to go feed the animals, and maybe take a nap...

I hope everyone else had a HAPPY start to the year.  Will try and check in when I am not so sleepy...

Sorry to hear about your grandmother's fall. I worry when people of that age group take spills.

I, too, was brought into the new year with the sounds of booms and bangs..which is interesting as they are illegal here. Oh, well...this is the beginning of a New Year. Let's hope for wondrous, lovely things to come our way.

So sorry to hear about your grandma. Like you said, it could have been worse, but any fall at that age is serious. I wish her well, and I hope you and your family have a happy and prosperous New Year.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma. I hope she heals quickly.
Last night, I slept like the dead, if anyone shot anything, I slept through it. House hunting will do that to ya.

Hang in there. I hope that you got some sleep. I know too well about not getting enough sleep.
Happy New Year.

Oh no! I'm sorry about her fall. I hope she recovers well and soon. I'll hope for better days ahead for you and her.

We had a quiet New Year like we always do. We like to stay out of the traffic and rat race of a rowdy New Year's Eve. But here too, our four kitties were rattled by a little gunfire and lots of fireworks in the neighborhoods around. No midnight here. They started about 9:30 pm Blech.

Gunfire? Are you KIDDING????

Sorry about your Grandma - I do hope she gets feeling better soon - although I had to laugh at your hearing comment. My mom also refuses to wear her hearing aids. She's been staying with us a bit and I spend all my time yelling at her. She mumbles, so I'm always saying, "What?" to her. A comedy of errors, for sure.
