I have joined a knitting group that meets on Saturdays. I went, after missing the last two weeks because of my knee. Normally there's a half dozen or more people.
I was the only one for the start, the regulars were out on Christmas vacation. So I watched customers, I chatted a little with the owner, and crocheted and knitted. (I brought 2 different projects.)
After a while a gal showed up and sounded nearly panicked. She was a new knitter, and was working on a hat. She asked if I was a teacher. I told her no, but I would be willing to help if I could.
She saw the way I was knitting, and nearly cried. You knit continental!
I told her that wasn't important, she needed help with a pattern, not the stitches. She thought about it for a moment, and said she needed help with the crown of her hat. I was knitting the toe of my sock, and explained how I did it, by decreases on one row, and just knitting on the other. I explained she could do that same thing, except she'd need to purl the one row. (She was knitting with two needles, not in the round.)
She caught on immediately, and knit like her yarn was on fire. She then wanted to know how to finish it. I explained, and offered to help. She decided she could do it, packed up, and told me she was so pleased, because it was a present for a family member's birthday in the next day or so.
That was nice. Feels good to help, and she seemed pleased. All in all, a good time.
What a good turn you did for her! So many groups have a break this time of year, it does get so busy. I'm glad you're being there worked out so well.
