1. A friend gave me some yarn, cotton, which I rarely use. And it's day glow orange, and safety yellow. I am not a yarn snob, especially if it is free, so, meh, I'll take it.
Hmm. But what am I going to DO with this stuff?
Then I learned to basically espalier my tomatoes. Most of the people were using plastic ties. I didn't want to do that for a couple reasons. Wind here tends to be pretty hard on the plants, and I could just see the plastic edge cutting through the branches. Also, I am enough hippie that I really try to avoid plastic if I can. Again, hmm.
Then I dug out the cotton yarn and made ties with that. I even used some for bean string. Wow! It works fine! It didn't cut into anything, and just sort of dissolves after a season or two. And it certainly adds color early in the season!
2. I found a bag I want to make out of three bandanas, but I think it's a bit on the thin side. So I am knitting a "bandana backing", to sew to it, reinforcing and possibly making it reversible.
It's a prototype for now, but it gives me mindless knitting of an evening, so I can relax, and not worry about mistakes.
3. A friend wanted what amounts to a dust mop for her floors. She wanted to know how much I was asking to do it for her. Basically I told her, if I can use yarn I already have, and no hard deadline, a plate of cookies. If I have to go buy yarn, and have a deadline, $20, and a plate of cookies. (I like her cookies.) She brought over yarn she had, and the cookies, and this is what I made her.
She very much likes it, and I am very much enjoying the cookies!
4. I didn't realize how many socks I've knit. Husband was concerned that I didn't have any socks, because my dirty sock bin was filled. (I wash the socks by themselves, because they are generally wool, and need to have a bit more care than say, a pair of jeans.) Anyway, I realized, I could have gone another 2 to 3 weeks and not run out of socks! If I include socks that I have knit for others... Maybe, 50 or 60 more on top of that?
5. I mentioned having hippie tendencies. I found a door cover that is hanging strings, decided to get one. I like it so well, I plan to get another for a different room. Add some beads and bells, it will be good to go!
6. I am working on a shawl/wrap. It's a portable project, I was sort of tired of socks, and wanted to do something different. I think the colors are pretty, I decided I am going to call my wrap, Evening at the Coast, because that's it reminds me of.
7. I am thankful for yarn and knitting (and crochet, too, actually.) It keeps me from figiting and keeps me a bit more patient than I would otherwise be.
8. I am thankful for spinning yarn, because that is another skill... And it gives me more yarn!
9. I am happy I can share my knitting with others, I have made baby clothes, blankets. I have knit hats for chemo patients.
It's nice to share.
10. I have a knitting journal my mom gave me. It's meant for finished projects, and I do record some larger ones, but I use it for ideas on future knit projects. I have more ideas than time! :)
Okay, all of you be thankful, and have a wonderful week!

ReplyDeletegood looking dust mop!

Yarn for the plants, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI really like your sock collection and your thankful list.
It is amazing that you can even spin the yarn. It looks like you have plenty of socks, but why not more?
