Planted my garden after much weeding. Even with weed fabric, and a heavy layer of mulch, I had MUCH grass hay to pull. On the bright side, there was some volunteer potatoes, so I am hopeful for multicolored potato salad later, hee hee!
Put in some zucchini and crookneck, and
an acorn squash plant. Also some tomatoes. Oh, and a cucumber plant, and watermelon. The weather had been warm, and wet. After planting them, I came out to find slugs had a buffet on a few things. I covered the watermelon, it seems like that is the worst one to be eaten. But, one tomato I'd just started, and wanted so badly to grow, was mowed down by those little slime monsters. On the bright side, I have several different types, but only had enough seed for one Berkeley Tie Dye, so... Get more later, I guess.
I put in Orca dry bush beans, some Blue Lake green beans, kohlrabi, carrots (yes, I am a glutton for punishment), and some Swiss chard. Flowers, too.
Strawberries lasted through the winter, and are coming up well, so...
I seem to have a bit more time to focus, and a bit less being on the go (which, surprisingly, I am enjoying!), so, I will see if the garden does a bit better with more care and less benign neglect.
Oh, I planted some pumpkin, too, and found 3 or for Oak tree starts. I will move them later, but I think I will just enjoy little trees in my raised beds! Crazy, yes, why do you ask?

Wow, I am impressed. I only grow toms, assorted peppers, and herbs. This is the second blog I have read talking about slugs in their garden. I found a few early on in May and quickly disposed of them, but I don’t doubt that there are more. I am keeping my fingers crossed . I hope everything comes up beautifully for you.
Although I have a brown thumb - I love seeing others gardens. Hopefully we can see pictures.
Starting Over: I grow lots of things, just because I like gardening. Not sure how good I am at it, but I enjoy it, and it's one of my continuing classes on patience!
As far as slugs, we have had cool rainy weather, and my garden was heavily mulched, perfect for the little monsters...

Retired Knitter: I am going to try and convince the blog to show pictures again. If so, there will be several. I have had some problems with the phone pics going on the blog. Maybe with the faster internet, who knows???

How i do love reading about your garden, wishing i had the knack.
Do slugs and snails really like beer? Someone told me you can drown them in beer traps, that they can't resist. Not sure if it wasn't just a gardener pulling my leg.
I guess it's in my genes, my family has always gardened, for fun, or food.
I have tried the slug/beer thing. Yes, it works, in fact, I might use it this year. HOWEVER, don't do it if you don't have an enclosed garden. I kept having the beer disappear overnight! Turns out, the neighbor's dog thought it was tasty, too!
