I
I'm Bored.
That was not a smart thing to say when I was a kid. In Mom's case, I would be given choices... Most involving things I liked, mixed in with housework. If I got snippy about it, it no longer became a choice... I had something to go DO.
I learned fast to eliminate it from my vocabulary. I now don't seem to have a big problem with boredom, as I have my Boredom Prevention Pack, otherwise known as my "Bag of Tricks". I usually, barest minimum have knitting. Let's just say that when I don't have that, a pacing tiger on speed looks laid back. Usually there might be a book, my MP3 player, a clipboard with paper and pens, and sometimes a snack, if I intend to be very long. I have been referred to as "The Bag Lady" more than once for this odd habit.
The funny thing, however, is that quite often I have to wait for something, like donating blood, or waiting in line for x service, and I have something to do. I see quite a few more people now iphoning or listening to something on players, but still I see folks that stand zombie like, bored out of their respective gourds. I strike of a conversation, and they seem relieved. Most of the time, they are fascinated with my knitting. I am fascinated they didn't have something to do.
Mom, I am NOT bored. Honest!
And, if you can, check out my inspiration for today's topic... I just think it's a funny song!
