So, I have been trying to write with my phone on the blog, mostly so I could put up some pictures, too... But, unless I would get up at oh, 2 a.m., I can't get the bandwidth to load pictures... I managed one, the rest have said "upload unsuccessful, try again." And after a LOT of tries, I just called it a bad job and gave up.
So, now that I am back from Christmas break, and I can use the sub's computer, I will write them here again, and see, from time to time if I can upload pictures and blogs from the phone, or from my computer, if I get it set up again... Meh...
New Year sort of made me think about the whole resolution thing... I still don't know if I am calling it that, I am thinking more in the term of a short term goal, I guess. I ended up deciding to write a journal daily. I would then write things like if I had exercised, what knitting projects I was doing/finished, what things had happened during the day, that sort of thing. I also write down what I ate during the day. That is monotonous, but I have been told you tend to eat less if you see it written down. (One friend, who doesn't like to write, said she lost weight because she wouldn't eat things, as she didn't want to record it!)
I did say short term goal. I figure, do this steady for a month, and see, is it helping? Do I like doing it? Do I need to make changes? This seems a bit more achievable to me than the "THOU SHALT DO THIS FOR 12 MONTHS UNCHANGED... "
The journal part is a memory prod, too. I had someone ask about some things that happened last year... I am slightly embarrassed to say, I had to think long and hard to remember. I am hoping if I write things down, I might have better recall. I generally do... In fact, a standing joke about writing things in our family, we make lists. And "if it's not on the list, it don't exist..." Well, I guess this way, more of my year will exist? :) One of my grandmas used to write on a square of a calendar what she did each day, but my writing is much too... all over the place, to fit well in the small square of a calendar... And as much stuff and nonsense as I am putting on the journal page, I think this will work a LOT better for me. Plus, if I want to blow off steam, write poetry, bad or otherwise, draw, what have you, I will have space for that, too...
So, we shall see what 2020 bringeth. Bringeth it on?
A country kid, working on raising chickens, knitting, caring for my home, and just generally watching the world go by.

Well, a blog, at any rate...
![]() |
| My chickens enjoying breakfast. |
I was hoping to get several blogs up. Not as easy as I had hoped, with the phone. But, I can get on here at the moment, so, I write up a blog.
I ended up not going full Santa barf mode, maybe just mild Santa indigestion? But I thought it looked nice, and we had a good time with family.
Sadly, Mon Ami died. He had been acting listless around food. Then, we went to town, we came back, and he was sitting in the middle of the hen yard, in the rain. I picked him up, which says something right there, and put him in a hen box to dry out and rest. He dozed off, and I went in the house. Husband went out in the evening to close the door, and found him on the floor. We suspect he wanted to roost with the others, and just didn't have the strength.
He was a silly little friend, and I will miss him, but I looked up the lifespan of a rooster, he would have been edging towards ancient. He has several progeny, and Jet Puff has a lot of his good looks, so he leaves a legacy...
I was able to get all my Christmas cards to people out of state... But didn't get any local ones finished! I received a few cards, but lots of my friends don't "do" cards. I figure, that's fine, I get to pick and choose who gets one from me, then! I sometimes receive texts with Merry/Happy, but even then, less than I used to. Oh, well.
I amused folks, because when I was shopping, I would wear a Santa hat, red vest, usually with a green shirt, copius jingle bells, and socks I knit with a"fur" ruff on the top. I heard more than a few comments about Mrs. Claus, and more than one little one would just watch in amazement as I jangled by. A few adults, too... And, mostly, it garnered smiles, which is what I was aiming for.
Tonight? I work a half day, then some quick doings, and home before the craziness starts. I guess I like my home, and not running off to celebrate the New Year, I really prefer at the house. No muss, no fuss, and falling asleep is no big deal... Let's just say, midnight is when we wake up, say Happy New Year, kiss, then go back to sleep.
Enjoy

New Year, Old Me. Or something like that.
The New Year is upon us! Well, ok, it’s been upon us for a few days, but hey, I am not known for jumping right on things…
First off, I wish to send my belated condolences to Mr. Chatterbox. It seems like 2016 was the time to lose family. I hope all goes well, and that you can get all the details sealed up. May all your memories be happy ones.
I haven’t written, because I have not been near the computer to speak of. I can use the phone for a lot of things, but not blogging. Perhaps if I were a Millennial, that can speed type with two thumbs, and can make the phone do all but make coffee…
But I have now made a spot (a real, you know, desk type spot!) to type with the computer. It was going to be in my craft room, but I found that the area I had picked didn’t work. So it’s now in the other room. This all works out. Except possibly for the fact the heat isn’t really great back here…
Hmm.
With the New Year comes resolutions. I normally don’t make those. This year, I have decided to try. What’s the worst I can do, break them?
Meh.
So, to that end:
1. Lose 5 pounds. See, I figure, geez, 5 pounds in a year? I should be able to do that.
2. Write my blog once a week. I reserve the right to write much more, should I want. I also reserve the right not to do the A to Z challenge, or do, depending on how chaotic life is at that time. I have quit some groups and things that distracted me from writing, (No Nanowrimo, that I had planned on doing...), so we shall see what a revised activity level will do.
3. Lose more papers and junk in my craft room. If I can remember how to up load the pictures from the phone, I will show you the before and after photos of what I’ve accomplished so far, with help from Husband and Family. (Trust me, envision an overflowing dump, and then lower it to a slightly stuffed living room, and you have the general idea.)
Not any earth shaking things, but we shall see what it adds up to at the end ‘o this year.
Hope all of you had a nice Christmas. I had one gift that was a not quite Christmas gift, but was very nice, all the same.
I love Decaf Vanilla Tea. To wit, I can get rid of a 20 count box in a week, if I am in a mood. Well, the store I bought from regularly, quit carrying it. (This was back about August). I asked if they could buy by the case, and get it that way.
Nope, not carrying, no special orders. Huh.
So, I went on the hunt for my tea. I try to buy local, when I can.
Store A. Nope.
B. No.
C. Uh, tea?
D. Sure, if you contact Soandso who works the evening shift on Friday.
I call on Friday. Oh, he’s not working, can I take a message? I leave a message. Nothing. Call again. Nothing. After the third time of leaving a message for this non-existent person, I gave up.
I started looking on line. I mentioned this to my Mom, who said something about waiting ‘til the New Year.
Why?
About a week later, (see how quick I am about ordering stuff?), a box arrived for Husband. I took it in the house and ignored it. He comes home and hands it to me. “Open it.”
Oooookay…
Inside was 6 boxes of tea. Then I lifted up that, and there was ANOTHER six underneath! So I am good for tea, for a bit. And the funny thing, we think that we might be able to buy it locally, because the website he chose, was for the one local store I forgot to check.
And, I hope most all of you are doing well weather wise. It is now breaking, sort of, but we had way low temps, (went almost to single digits...) then freezing rain, then snow, then freezing rain again. It is now raining, which is sllllloooowwllly getting rid of the ice. I have basically stayed in the house for about 2 days, Husband gingerly walking out to care for the animals. I could probably do it, but he has much better balance than I do. In fact, poor Rudee went out for a bathroom break, he walked very gingerly out, and his back feet slid out from under him a couple times. He went potty, then walked gingerly back to the kennel, and glared at the ice. We will all be much happier when it goes back to normal Oregon rain...

Bloggy bits...
This was not a stellar week. I tried to be nice about it, but trying to do good things for people this week, did NOT go unpunished. So, rather than depress everyone with my whining, (which I believe I am quite good at, by the by), I decided that I would throw some 'stuff' in my blog, that in and of itself, wouldn't really be much, but might be enough if I throw it all in one. Sorta like leftovers for dinner, but not.
One of my friends said they have puppies that are a Red Heeler and Blue Heeler mix. I keep wondering if that makes them Purple Heelers.
One of my roosters is offended by wind. If the wind blows, he will go out and challenge it. He literally will stand and squawk at passing breezes, if they ruffle his tail feathers. I really don't think he would be my first choice for continuing the species.
Joke someone told me recently. There is a place in Idaho, called Picabo (peek-a-boo). Thusly, there is in the hospital, a Picabo I.C.U. (Well, who knows, maybe it's NOT a joke. I think it's funny, however.)
If you don't start on a New Year's Resolution, have you broken it?
In that regard, I have actually found some of the floor in my craft room, but Now I am losing space on the window area, because I am starting plants from seed. I have some pumpkins, that I believe are trying to take over. They haven't even formed true leaves yet, and are almost a hand span tall. (Feed me, Semore!) On the annoying side, I have replanted my peppers 3 times, and nada. I am soon to go to the time honored tradition of saying to H*** with it, and buying plants. Darn it.
Am I feeling like living irony, as I spin, love to knit, like fiber a lot, and my next door neighbor raises sheep!
HAIR sheep.
Sheep you don't have to shear.
Sheep that don't give fiber...
Waaah!
I found a grow it yourself chicken scratch on http://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/, (terrific company, no relation, just satisfied customer), and so I thought I would get some for the birds. Then I started reading what they put in it for seed...
Bloomsdale spinach
Tyfon
Oak Leaf Lettuce
Salad Bowl Lettuce
Red Russian Kale
Red Giant Mustard
Collards
Um. I am going to plant a plot for the chickens... I am also planting a row in my garden. FOR ME!
(Hey, looky that! I managed to get a link to work, there is hope for me, yet!)
Ok, well, have a nice day, and if you can't leave a post, (I have received complaints. Thank you, didn't know...) then email at "rencatus AT yahoo DAWT com" , with the obvious changes. Others of you that can, I thank you!
You may now return to your regularly scheduled other stuff to do.

Resolutions! Alert the Media!!
I am rather a pointedly ANTI-resolution type. Well, just for a change of pace, I am going to make some resolutions this year, just to be obnoxious.
1. I am going to go through my UFO pile. Anything that I don't know what is for, (like the blue and white "thing" on 10 1/2 needles), or that I don't think I will do, (some gloves MIGHT be on that list...), or just that I can find a different, more useful use for the yarn, will be made back into skeins or yarn cakes, and hopefully thereby making at least a bit more room on the shelf.
2. The UFO's left. Finish them. I have one UFO, for me, that needs 3 seams sewn. Haven't done it since they were off the needles six or seven months ago. Think it's aged enough, yes?
3. Clean the boxes in the craft room. I think I even mentioned this in a previous blog...

'Nuff said...
4. Start my walking again. Husband said Rudee is looking "chunky". We can't have a chunky dog now, can we? That, of course, is my resolution for Rudee. I have absolutely no reason for walking. The dog needs it, is all, and just likes me walking with him... Ahem.
5. Get a 'portable' spinning wheel made with my Dad. We have been talking about doing this, and I am volunteering to help with a spinning group doing a presentation, working with kids. I am paranoid that my "good" spinning wheel will be damaged by some little kid that has mistaken it for an erector set, or some such. With our making a wheel, I can drag out and back, fix on the spot (hopefully), and won't be out more than what a bicycle wheel or PVC pipe would cost.
6. Write at least once a week on my blog. I can always write MORE, but at least once a week. Who knows, I might even get a spark and write every day!
Uh, huh. What I said about the media? Don't alert them on #6.
(photos hopefully tomorrow on the SOCKS and SHAWL that I made Mom for Christmas. I didn't get the camera out for Christmas, going on a photo shoot today... And who knows, maybe more resolutions. How about 1026 x 400? Heh...)

Have a Beary Icy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Well, I make no resolutions for New Years. In fact, the only one I have made the last few years was to tick off a particular anal-retentive family member that demanded I make a resolution. So, to wit:
I resolve to make no New Year’s Resolutions.
Said family member had near hysterics, and demanded to know if I realized that by making that resolution I had already broken it. I said, um. Yes, that’s why I phrased it that way. She doesn’t ask me about my resolutions much any more, thank goodness…
I have about half the sweater sleeves knit, hoping to get them finished in the next few days… I am desperately trying to be a “process” knitter, and finish a few of the projects I have started. Let’s put it this way, right now I have a six foot shelf, and it is just UFO’s. Not good. Of course, I am not sure if one project counted on the shelf, as it was just the yarn and needles, I hadn’t even started it. Even more so, I have a shawl hidden away, that I have been working on occasionally, and I don’t have that anywhere near the UFO shelf. (I have seriously thought about putting little UFO stickers on that shelf… Hmmm.)

The bear on the left is a project I have finished. The bear on the right is one that I had finished earlier. This is for a project where the bears go to kids in places like South Africa, and other areas where the kids have real problems. Mother Bear Project (Look it up, Blogger isn't letting me put links on), is where you can see what everyone else is doing. I want to make girl bears, for the simple reason, I can make skirts. I figure, I have a lot of knitting patterns I’d like to try. This way, I can try them, see if I like them, and if I do, the bear has a long skirt. If not, the skirt is knee length. That would give me a chance to try some patterns on a smaller scale, and find out if I like them. It also gives some little child (probably a girl) a sort of unique bear.

This was the lovely window picture I’d tried to get the other day. I think that the neat part is the bit of background behind the frost, giving it some depth. Heavens, am I getting philosophical? Ewwww…
