One person's treasure is another person's yarn ball...

(I will see if I can convince the phone to put up a picture on the blog tomorrow of my gloves, but don't hold your breath...)

I had some fiber I bought from a lovely lady, since retired, (WAAAAHHHH!!!), ahem, anyway, she had put white, blue, green, red, yellow, and some sort of burnt orange color in the batt.  And there was quite a lot of it, 8 ounces or so.  I finally managed to spin it all, I would just grab hanks and spin, not separating the colors, just seeing what came up.  And it came up looking blended, with random stripes.  Now this was so funny, I fell in love with it because... The wool, and the color blending just reminded me of my Great Grandma's wool rug.  She was the bane of the family for a while, from what I understand, if she even SUSPECTED something was made of wool, she wanted it for her rug.  Now, this was a rug that covered her entire living room.  I was a small kid at the time, but even now, I seem to remember that it had to be about 10 to 12 feet on the long end, and... 7 or so feet the other way?  (It was a flattened oval.)  I can't remember for sure what happened to it, I seem to remember it became someone's 'junk' in a garage and was eventually tossed for being a mess, but I remember all the colors, and how tremendously large it seemed to little me... A big colorful island, of sorts.

So I finished the spinning, and unlike some of my spinner friends, I don't plan, oh, I need this fiber for this project.  Which could be why I don't get picky about most fiber, I just enjoy the spinning, I will figure out what to do with it...

Eventually.  a-HEM...

I went to the doctor, (hang in there, this IS leading somewhere), and I was talking about my Rosacea.  I have given up chocolate, not fun, but it helps, a lot.  But I told him, please don't think I am crazy, but when I go outside, and it's cold and windy, I get terrible flare ups.  He laughed, and said, not only are you NOT crazy, that's actually a pretty common cause.

It is?  Huh... So, after getting a cleanish bill of health, I remembered to ask about the wind.  Would some kind of barrier to the wind work?  He said sure, as long as it wasn't a latex or polyester, which won't breathe, causing the problem to worsen... (Too bad, that means I can't get this. =:) ), so he recommended a balaclava, or scarf.  He mentioned a few places to buy them, and I said, I knit, would that work?  He grinned, and said, absolutely, you would know what bothers you and such, make yourself something nice!

So, I have the doctor's permission to knit. : D

But what?  My eyes fell on the "Grandma's Rug" yarn I'd made.  I had a pair of gloves and a skinny scarf I had knit a while ago for myself, but, with time, and my less than careful handling, on occasion, they were getting a bit scruffy.  So, I have commenced to knit a pair of gloves, now finished, and a scarf, which I have just cast on for.  I am still working out what pattern I want to use, but it will be a fairly basic, maybe more open looking scarf, so it will keep me warm, but I can breathe, without a wool filter blocking each nostril... (Ewww...)

So, January's 'selfish' knitting continues.  I need to work on some leaves, too... But, I want to make the scarf first.  Please ignore the socks, and at least two other "portables" I have going in the front room.  And no, I have no idea what all those projects are in my craft room.

Cough...

Almost finished! And good chair...

So my blog of Jan. 28, where I said I was going to knit up my Doctor Who scarf.  As of a tiny bit before 7 pm today, I have finished the knitting.  Now to weave in ends, and make tassels. Then I will have a fully-functioning scarf!  I am sort of looking forward to showing it to a friend of mine, who is an even more geekity Who follower than I am...

And the chairs of Feb. 5?  I must not have been the only one displeased with the things.  There was, like my plan, a chair from the conference area.  It worked, no leg cramps, and no upset deputies.  I think we have a winner!  (I feel like putting a sticker with Volunteer Use Only, or something on it, so we don't lose the silly thing!)

Not a great lot otherwise, this week to blog about, let's face it, knit across, slip one stitch, knit across, repeat until next color, repeat again, isn't screamingly fascinating to read about.  But once I get it complete, I will see if I can get a photo up.

The animals are enjoying a rare sun break here at the moment.  See if I can get some pictures of them, as well...

I have (sigh) 4 roosters now.  Mon Ami, and an almost white one I call Blanc.  Technically Noir et Blanc, but Blanc is quicker.  I have two more I want to name, one is really lovely, with red wings, and is loud and boisterous.  The other is more his shadow.  I will have to see what some of those sound like in French.  I suppose it is silly, but they are French birds, so I am sticking with french names.  Guess it gives me something to learn, as I know zip in the French department...  (I am also tempted to call the red winged one 2 a.m., because, I found out, he crows at that time!)

Also, I have been trying to say hi on some of your blogs, but I am still not getting the phone to cooperate.😒   I will see about saying hello on the computer more often...

hot glue, duct tape, string...

In other words, what do you use on something that you break.  I said I was going to write a blog a week, and I do think I forgot to put one up last week.  No reason, except I spaced.

So, I will work on getting the blog up today.

What's been happening.  I have been selected for county jury duty.  Husband and Mom both commented that it starts "Greetings", that I should count my lucky stars it's not for the draft.  However, as 'old', and broken down as I am, I think it wouldn't be much of a problem... Sigh.

I am working diligently on getting boxes, and yarn, and needles, and paper, and and and and put away in my craft room.  I am pleased with how it's progressing, but have had to change a few things, as I receive items from Grandma's estate.  (I am now the 'proud' owner of probably 70 or more crochet hooks... Sorting, much figuring on what I want to keep, and who I can help with craft enabling is ensuing...) I have donated nearly a small pickup load of items to charity, and working on my second.  I will be going through clothing, and then...

The dreaded closet of doom.  Also known as the craft closet.  It's probably as bad, or more likely worse, than the craft room itself.  I want the craft room WELL cleaned before I start on that bad boy...

I also found out a design element I did to make my yarn easier to access...

Didn't.

It's a nasty crawlspace effect that I'd not realized when planning it.  I am hoping to transfer some items I don't use often under there, and move the yarn out into the light of day, so to speak.  Or at least within reach.

Oh, and I managed to snag a CD of the music from Hamilton.  I promised Husband I would not play it with him around... He detests rap.  I find a lot of it rather fun, though, and this is no exception.  So, I listen, when he's not in the house, he doesn't have to hear it...

And we're both happy!

Oh, and I am knitting a project, just for me.  I have, since high school, wanted a Doctor Who scarf (4th Doctor), to wit:  I have had the pattern well before I ever learned to knit.  I finally looked at my stash.  Hmm. Have that color, yep, that too.  That's pretty close...

The only color I didn't have was a sort of yellow mustard color.  I started looking, and found one.  I am now about a foot or so up the left side, as seen in this picture. Just starting the red part, as a matter of a fact.  I made it narrower, the original is 60 stitches wide, I am knitting about 30.  I want a scarf, not a blanket.  Otherwise, I am trying to follow it as written.  I know that mine will look a bit different, but not outrageously so, and I really just want it for me, so who cares?  I hope to wear it at faire sometime, there are enough Who Geeks there, I should get a response.

More info as things congeal...

Ravelry competition.

I will be 'competing' in the Ravellenic Games.  (It used to have another name, but a major sports event to be held threw a fit, and so it's called that.)  The cast on will be when the flame is lit, and is to be finished when the flame goes out, basically I have the length of the game to finish a project.  I am going to knit a scarf.  The ends of the scarf will have Tardis patterns on them.  It is based on a lovely shawl, but I don't need a shawl, nor does my friend, who I am making this for.

If any of you are knitters on Ravelry , I am "Knitcat", (I know, big surprise...)  I will be knitting for Team Sherlocked.

For those of you that don't knit, yes I am a geek, why do you ask?

Oh, and thank all of you for the birthday wishes, and I will be about to your blogs soon!  I seem to be having not much in the way of time to say much when I am online of late.  That will be rectified!
