Dodutdooduda doo... and Husband's helping a neighbor.

G*d help me, I heard "The Popcorn Song" by Hot Butter, and it has firmly stuck itself into my brain... AIGH! Song worm attack!

Ok, work on the blog, ignore it, and doo da doo doo doo... Uh, oh... (Click on the link if you dare!)

Anyway.

Husband has a friend that has some severe arthritis in his hands, but likes to target shoot. He has this little rifle, but the cocking mechanism was getting to the point that he couldn't pull it back without hurting his fingers. Husband kept working on this for about 3 or 4 days, just plotting and figuring how to make an adjustment to get it to work. He tried one or two ideas that didn't work because of weight, or because it wouldn't fit into the space provided. He finally came up with this little finger pull. (The normal pull is a small, button shaped piece.)

It allows said friend to pull with either an index finger or a thumb, (Husband didn't know which would be easier for him, so made it large enough to accomidate a thumb), and is made with some... Titatium, brushed to look like the metal surrounding it. (Ti makes it rustproof, and lighter. This piece being larger than the part that came off, needed to weigh the same, as it was part of the firing pin mechanism.)

This is where and how it sits on the rifle.

A different view. The rifle is a "Chipmunk". I was nearly thrown out after the fifth or sixth time I asked Husband how Alvin was doing. He does not tolerate puns all that well...

(Like he should be surprised when I named my llamas, Rama, Lama, Ding Dong, and Lorenzo???)

I know this isn't my normal 'bloggy' stuff, but I just thought it was really a nice job that my husband did, and for a neat reason, too. It's one of those goofy things that aren't really something you would have a great call for, but it's important to someone. And that's what makes it special.

Why yes, I am biased, why do you ask?

Do dut doo du do da doo... Excuse me while I go put on something else, ANYTHING else, to get this @#$% song out of my head!!!

Short stops...

Just a quick blog.

I was looking up some songs that I like on YouTube, to see what was there. I looked up "The Devil Inside". Views, 689,666. Somehow, I thought that was appropriate.

I was listening to NPR, and they were talking about violence on Indian Reservations. It was said that President Clinton had attempted to help, and now President Obama was "taking a stab at it."

And I thought I was bad about puns.

Have a great one.

Movin', movin', movin...

Keep those plants a movin',
dig 'em up, put 'em in, set 'em down, wet 'em good,
RAAAAAAAWHIIIIIDE!

(Yes, maybe I have been out in the sun too long...) So, now that you have that song stuck in your head, here's what I have been up to this last couple sunny days.

If you look a the garden, you see the pretty red tulips? You COULD NOT see them when I started, there was just so much grass and weed stuff in there. I hadn't done a thing with it, and it showed. Husband never said a word, but we are getting more people coming by for various reasons, and I think he likes the thought of it looking like a garden, not a mini hay field.

These are some flowers that were in our grass when Husband was all set to mow. I told him to hold off, and transplanted about a dozen. He mowed, and I think there are a dozen more out there! I will move them eventually, but the ground out front is hard, HARD digging, so I am sort of slow on the digging up of the front, so far. Mom thinks they are Blue Bells, I haven't checked yet, but I think I agree.

I have been getting plants that I know will grow here, either they already ARE growing, or I have grown them before. I am a "Darwinian Gardener", if I can grow it, it's welcome. If not, Pbbbt. I also grow things without knowing what the name is quite often, so I take pictures, and then bug people that know, like Extension Agents... Nursery People... Mom....

This is what I have been working on a LOT. It's (I believe) an herb called Lemon Balm. It is all over the place here, so I have been working on putting it in the garden, so that I can enjoy the smell. It's like you have been sprayed with Lemon Pledge when you carry this stuff around.

(Which, I might add, after a day of sweating and working, is NOT a bad thing...)

Projects... for Halloween. And WAY beyond...

Here is a project that I have been putting off. It is a carder. Really, it IS supposed to take fiber, and "mix" it for spinning. I checked. The main crank turns. The lesser cranks no. Nor does the belt, what makes the lesser cranks move. (But even with just my hand, no go.)

However, the worst part is this. The teeth are rusted. With wool... Or some fiber, stuck in a permenant strangle hold. I have decided this part isn't worth fixing. I know a shop where I can get replacements. 'Cuz this ain't gonna do poo...

So, having decided that other than lubing, which I can't do, as I am out of WD-40, and I don't feel like trying to take each and every bit apart until I know I can GET parts, I decided to make this little guy. (He actually is little, he is only up to my shoulder.)

I was going to put a light in his head, but found out I made a hybrid, the pumpkin I planted mixed with the crookneck squash. It is big, sort of triangular, and has flesh the WHOLE WAY THROUGH THE SQUASH!!! I wasn't of a mind to dig it all out, so I painted a face on him, and stuck it on. (Thank G*d for Sharpie pens.)

The way he looks makes me think of the opening to 'Laverne and Shirley'.

Ok everybody, "Schlemiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer incorporated!"

Either that or the Sound of Music... "The hills are alive..."

Great, now THAT'S going to be stuck in my head all afternoon...
