Halloween costume

So, I need to get started blogging again.  Fair amount of busy...  But mostly, I just didn't sit down and blog. So, for today, it will be short.

This is Ding the cat.  Husband saw a cartoon about bats, and asking if she was a Dingbat.

Well, now she is!

This costume lasted exactly 3 photos, and she decided it was time to play with the wings.  Um.  Paper wings don't stand up well to teeth.  But Husband loved it, and Ding was patient... For Ding.

So it worked out well.

Tonight, one of our friends wants to bring her son over for Trick or Treat.  I will be putting his candy out in a "Monster Bush" for him to take, I am keeping well away from them, but he will get his candy! (Monster Bush pic later.)

I can't decide...

If I am crazy at the sub, or if the others are.

The little creepies are back...

And there are more of them...

And they are ALLLL on the counter.  I have had to move the blasted things to assist people.  My boss came in and piped up, when he saw the menagerie of toys, Oh, I just love Halloween...

Greaaaaat...

I moved one of the things, I despise spiders, and so it, of course, was dead center of my vision... So, it's now dead center of a box on the counter, so it's readily visible to public, and I don't have to see it!  At least the Hee Haw Child of the Corn is facing AWAY from me.

Some of the things are kind of cute, a lantern with cutouts of a haunted house, so the windows glow when lit.  An amply endowed derriere witch, and some neat wood cutouts of cats and things.

But, I guess I find it really not fun to continually have to move stuff to do work.  I seem to be the only grump of the group, so I guess I will let the crap  decorations stay where they are.  Oddly, they are solar powered, so when the lights come on, things on the counter swing and sway...

I guess I should be glad that we don't have haunted house sounds!  Sheesh!

Grumpy,
Signing off...

Busted, as it were.

I had mentioned all the little Halloween  items that were multiplying around the desk?  And how I had moved them to the side?

Well, the gal who had been bringing them in said that she was disappointed that they weren't front and center, why didn't I like them.

I thought fast.  "I am a klutz, and I kept knocking them over."

She didn't seem convinced, but they are still to the side.

I was thinking about Halloween. Is it just me, or has it gone from a kid-friendly, get candy and go play games, to rather... Over-the-top sexy costumes, that are much, much for adults?  And the parties, well, I gather there are parties at bars and such... But not just fun, it's like Matin' Place with costumes...

On the other hand, if you need ideas for costumes, (sexy or not), Google has come out with an interesting interactive.  They show the most searched for costumes, and how many people you might see with the same costume at a party...   I looked, and Oregon seems to be trending to witches, Fred Rogers, Butterflies... And Octoberfest wear.  Hmm.

Most of the ones I picked on the costume list seemed to be Meh, you might, you might not see them at a party.  I guess I could dig out my clothes from high school and sell them, it turns out, a hot, trendy costume is 80's wear.  Hot pink, scrunchies, and shoulder pads, anyone?

I am hoping to get the white pumpkins done up as eyeballs soon.  I am going to see if I can put a picture on the blog through my phone.  Don't hold your breath, but we'll see...

And, the scary season has begun, the voting bags are in the lobby!  😉

They are multiplying...

👀

That is my expression at the sub.  You remember when I was talking about the Halloween toys on the front desk that I moved?

There are more.

I think when we leave them alone, they are getting frisky.  There were about 5 or so, there is near to a dozen at this point.

So far we have witches, scarecrows, a lantern or four, skeletons, ghosts, and some tombstones.  Plus, they all are solar powered, so in the morning, at about 8:30 a.m. or so, they start swaying, wiggling, what have you.  Most of them don't bother me.

Most of them.

There is a little... Scarecrow? I guess.  He has a crow on his head, and the eyes are creepy.  Think "Children of the Corn" meets "Hee Haw."

But when the sun hits it, the eyes 'blink', sort of.  They move up and down, but whoever painted it, put it so the eyes aren't quite centered, and they look sunken.  Generally, I think I am quite glad that thing is about 3 inches high.  I am not scared, per se, it just sort of creeps me out.

But, it is Halloween-time, so I guess it's okay.  (I draw the limit at spiders, however...)

But come November 1, I am in here with a bag, and they can make friends with the Christmas decorations!

(So, Mom, no, not scared, just think they are odd...)

(I will be so happy when I can put pictures on my blog again...)

~Halloween double feature~

Haven't seen The Shining, and figured the other would be a good laugh...
(And yep, VCR tapes.  Rockin' it old school...)

Hoping you have a fun, and not TOO spooky Halloween!

Boo! Uh, I mean, meow!
(This is what happens when Schrodinger catches sight of the dangling strap on my camera.  The next photo is even better...)

Attack!!!

A Halloween Story, in 4 parts... Ok, maybe 5...

This little fly, he was number one.  He cried, "Oh, no!  What have I done?"

This little fly, he was number two.  He looked at the web, and into it he flew. (He wasn't real bright...)
"Oh, me, oh, my, what shall I do?"

Fly number three, flew away, with a scream!  She flew off into the sky, yelling, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"

Then the flies looked with terror at a big old fat spider, (Number 2 thought, oh, crap, we're dead... Maybe we can hide... Er...)
Then the spider smiled, a questionable feat, then said, Hi, I'm Boris, Wanna trick or treat?

The flies were scared, but they couldn't say no, but Boris was a charmer.
He let them go.  He smiled, and handed them packages to get candy,
And they all went Trick or Treating, it was really quite dandy.
(Until Boris got hungry.  Then he ate them, 'cuz spiders don't eat candy.
They didn't really think too much of that...)

Gotcha!

This is the set up out front.

Happy Halloween, folks!

(Extra points if anyone catches the rock reference in my poem!)

Well, Hope sprang eternal... Again. Pbbt...

(Due to the male half of my family, the opinion was that my scarecrow needed a libation... Hence the minor change.)

(A post sitting character, that looks like, if I remember my Mister Rogers correctly, Lady Elaine Fairchild.)

(Does this look like a pointillist version of the Jack character in the Jack in the box ads? Yeah, I thought so, too.)

Well, I expected 2 costumed carpet rodents. I got one.

I did decorate, a little.
We had a fire, so there would be that spooky-ish look when you looked in the door. (Well, if you didn't notice the stupid tv next door to it, but whatever.) We also put a glass float that is red, in a bowl, and put an electric tea light under it to give a spooky glow. Note: This works much better if the room is DARK. Under regular lighting conditions, you really can't see it well.

The little guy was dressed as Mickey the Mouse, and Mom and Grandma told me he hadn't removed said costume since it had been bought about 2-3 days before Halloween. The kid REALLY likes Mickey. (2 year olds can be like that.) He turned shy, so no pix.

I dressed as a devil. Mom said it wasn't a strech. So did Husband.

Hmmm.

Problem is, I should offended. But I suspect they are right.

Projects... for Halloween. And WAY beyond...

Here is a project that I have been putting off. It is a carder. Really, it IS supposed to take fiber, and "mix" it for spinning. I checked. The main crank turns. The lesser cranks no. Nor does the belt, what makes the lesser cranks move. (But even with just my hand, no go.)

However, the worst part is this. The teeth are rusted. With wool... Or some fiber, stuck in a permenant strangle hold. I have decided this part isn't worth fixing. I know a shop where I can get replacements. 'Cuz this ain't gonna do poo...

So, having decided that other than lubing, which I can't do, as I am out of WD-40, and I don't feel like trying to take each and every bit apart until I know I can GET parts, I decided to make this little guy. (He actually is little, he is only up to my shoulder.)

I was going to put a light in his head, but found out I made a hybrid, the pumpkin I planted mixed with the crookneck squash. It is big, sort of triangular, and has flesh the WHOLE WAY THROUGH THE SQUASH!!! I wasn't of a mind to dig it all out, so I painted a face on him, and stuck it on. (Thank G*d for Sharpie pens.)

The way he looks makes me think of the opening to 'Laverne and Shirley'.

Ok everybody, "Schlemiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer incorporated!"

Either that or the Sound of Music... "The hills are alive..."

Great, now THAT'S going to be stuck in my head all afternoon...
